Windows Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I'm overwhelmed by all the industry jargon. What do these words mean?

A: At Sunshine Siding & Window Co., it's our goal for each and every one of our customers to feel comfortable throughout their home improvement experience. We try to always explain any construction concepts in terms everyone will know when we're at the home, but we also like to make definitions available on our Glossary Page.

Q: Will the replacement windows be installed from the inside or outside?

A: The majority of our replacement windows are installed from the outside. In some situations it may be necessary to install from the inside. Your installation expert will assess your unique situation and explain the process that will best suit your home.

Q: Do you install replacement windows year-round? If so, will I lose a lot of heat/cooling at the time of installation?

A: Sunshine Siding and Window Co. installs replacement windows year-round. An average installation will take only one day. Our crews install one window at a time and are trained to do what they can to minimize heating/cooling loss. Also the energy savings from your new windows will recover any incremental energy costs incurred during their installation many times over.

Q: How can I prepare my house for my replacement windows?

A: Please take down curtains, blinds, or any other window treatments. Security sensors should also be removed and turned off by your security company. Please provide our installation expert with a clear path to the window(s) being replaced by moving anything that may be in the way. It is also advisable to remove all wall decorations near the windows as they may fall during removal or installation.

Q: How long will it take to get my replacement windows? How much time should I allow for the installation?

A: Your replacement windows will be installed within 3-6 weeks from the date that the final measurements are taken. Windows are typically custom made to your homes specifications. The manufacturing process is about 2-4 weeks and once delivered to the home the installation process starts in earnest. The type of window being installed and type being removed help determine the amount of time needed to complete the job. On average each window takes about one to two hours. Trim work and cleanup will require additional time to complete. The average job will take a single day.
